Racist Radio Show, the Freedom of Speech
This isn't going to be the most informative, as I have already forgot the name of the radio host who made some racist comments on the air, but bear with me. The constitution holds the right to the freedom of speech. As much as everybody wants to point to the constitution when they are accused of saying something racist, descrimintory, or what not, everybody wants to shun the views they don't like and want this person off the air. There is no middle ground! The constitution holds that you have the freedom of the speech and of the press...to take him off the air for expressing his views is unconstitutional. Personally, I have watched a few shows and things on BET and such that are outwordly racist. Do you hear white people complain? No. Why? Because we just don't watch it! The beauty of the remote is shown. You can censor things that you don't want to hear or see by just letting it go or removing yourself from a situation.

If someone is going to be fired for saying something racist, in my opinion, I would consider it ridiculous. There is such thing as freedom of speech and you are right, if you don't want to hear it, change the channel. But I do believe there is a time and place for everything. If the radio station was said to be children friendly and the host started cursing, I would consider it wrong. Same to this radio station. If it was known for being multi-racial and then the host starting says racial slurrs, it would be wrong. But it all depends.
The freedom of speech portion of the Constitution only applies to government infringement upon speech. The First Amendment reads "Congress shall make no law..." The Fourteenth Amendment extends this to the states. A private company does not have to allow you freedom of speech.
I would like to invite you into my world, to walk a mile in my shoes. You have something you need to get out or you might become even more bitter. Bitterness will eat a man's soul slowly like cancer, so be diligent in dealing with it.
Well you are right about removing yourself from certain situations, but being racist is still wrong. Why does it even have to exist? I've exprienced it several times right here in Tallahassee.
I feel racial statements should not be made live. I know people have the right to say anything they want, but some things are just inappropriate. But it is true if you start feeling uncomfortable by the situation then isolate yourself from it.
Your rights extend only to the point where you are infringing on someone else's.
I agree with Josh.
I do not have a "black is power" in my gradebook, so I can't give you credit unless you put your actual name on posts and comments.
