Should the police force be banned from using tazer guns?
Within the year of 2007, there have been an increased in deaths with police officers using tazer guns on people. One would think that after at least two cases resulting in death, our police department would use other force. I understand that they must protect themselves, but at what risk to killing someone. What happened to pepper spray, or K-9 attacking the attacker? We must visit the fact that people are dying after being tazed by the police force and something needs to take place, before more unnecessary deaths occur.

The benefits of the Taser outweigh the risks of using it. First, you must understand that the Taser actually saves lives. In some situations a person can be subdued with a Taser whereas in the past they may have been shot. Also the mere presence of a Taser brings most people into compliance with the cop's verbal commands. For this reason it saves on worker's compensation for the officers who used to have to fight with non compliant people. It also saves agencies on medical costs provided to offenders when they are injured during the fight. What actually looks worse on TV, someone being subdued by a Taser or a cop beating someone with a stick?
Besides that, every police officer who carries a Taser must first be shot with one before they can carry it. How many police officers have died during this training? And how many people die each year due to cocaine induced psychosis and "sudden custody death syndrome" without being shot with a Taser? If you do your research and learn the science behind how the Taser affects the body you will find out that it is likely not what is killing these folks. It could be part of a cocktail of reasons but I would be willing to bet that the media will tell you it is the Taser killing people because it makes better news.
But if you choose to believe it is the Taser....do what the cop tells you to do, because I don't see agencies taking them away, and the cops will use them.
Mr. Ron did you write this comment before or after a 10 year old was tasered?
See my response to that Blog comment.
I think police use their tazer guns much more often then needed because it is not supposed to kill anyone. So when in a situation, they do no even think about a different tactic. When used appropriatley, a tazer gun can not only save the life of an officer, it will not kill the suspect. Tazer guns are great weapons, if they are not overused.
Well, I'm not gonna write a page on this topic because frankly, Ronald covered all of it. What I will say is that tazers are great weapons for them to use...would more or less people have died if they were shot with a 9mm, or a tazer? Tazers are also ultra-effective, and will bring down people that can take a bullet and keep fighting (yes, I know people that can and have scars to show it). And to be perfectly honest, when you get tazed, especially by the prongs that actually can be shot some feet, It completely immobilizes you safely...and hurts...and burns.
