Feel threatened?
So Venezuela accounts for up to 15% of crude oil imports to the U.S., right? So if Sunday's vote is "yes", and Chavez cuts off crude oil imports to the U.S. and obtains full authority over the Central Bank; how big is the impact going to be on us? I understand how power can make people say some crazy things, but should we be taking him seriously right now, or not?

I wouldn't worry about Chavez. We are making too big of a deal about this small country.
In addition, our masters, the oil companies, have told us not to like Chavez because he refuses to play along with them. Chavez snubbed at Exxon therefore, Exxon put on the propaganda blitz, calling him a dictator and having their guy in the white house say all sorts of nasty stuff.
We all should know by now, that countries who go along with us are our allies, and their leaders are called presidents, and countries that don't agree with us are called our enemies and they always have dictators in power.
Chile is a great example. However, if you look at U.S. involvment in South America over the decades, its a small miracle that we still have any allies down there.
I don't support Chavez at all. Why? because I really don't know anything about him. So the morale of the story is...Don't always believe everything you hear or read. Besides, in the very near future, oil won't be an issue.
We should just reduce our use of oil. I think that is a lot simpler than people make it seem. "Go green" my house is now filled with CFL bulbs (Compact Fluorescent Lighting) which use about a 3rd or less of the electricity the candescent light bulbs use. Also they last on average 5 times longer. Public Utilities website said that if everyone put atleast one of these light bulbs in their house we'd save enough energy to light a whole town for a year. Now imagine converting all your bulbs. My house has over 70 bulbs in it altogether so I know by converting all of them I am helping out a lot. Also by the second year of installing these light bulbs you make 'pure' profit. You see an immidiate drop in your electric bill too. They last 5 years plus.
By the way I was mentioning if every household puts atleast 1 of the CFL bulbs in their house, not to mention if all business establishment also did this.
