Amendment 2

"This amendment protects marriage as the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife and provides that no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized. The direct financial impact this amendment will have on state and local government revenues and expenditures cannot be determined, but is expected to be minor."

I plan to vote "NO" on this one. I think to tell anyone, gay or straight or whatever, that their "union" will not be valid or recognized is just wrong. To refuse someone certain benefits because of who they choose to be with is ridiculous. And if the impact will be so "minor" then why have people spent all this time to draft an amendment on it?!?

I agree in that who is to be the judge of what's a legal union. In my personal opinion if two people love each other, no matter what gender or race, they should be able to celebrate that. However this isn’t really a concern since it seems that at least here in Florida same sex marriage has already been named illegal in four different Florida statutes.
A bigger concern with this amendment I believe is that it would mean that all unmarried persons, including those who have been divorced or widowed seniors, wouldn’t be able to share certain benefits such as health care coverage. Something that I think I need to look more into before voting.

This amendment is completely pointless. It has been a huge waste of time and money. There is no point in an amendment that says basically the exact same thing as all of the other previos legislations. In my opinion our representatives should be more concerned with increasing tourism incentives or something.

Suprise, suprise!! This one passed.

This amendment affected more than just gay people but apparently nobody cared!

I think we have taken a huge step back. Our history is full of people who fought for equal rights but we are still so ignorant. It will be overturned in 20 years so whatever.

I believe gays have the right to choose whoever they want to be with, and have no problem with gays or anyone of that nature. However I do not believe it is normal; we were made to be one man and one woman. Recently over the summer I worked with young kids, and there were two young brothers that were adopted by two homosexual women; both of them very high up in the community, one being a circuit court judge. After a year or two this couple split and now has new partners for themselves; so these boys now have four moms. These boys were great kids but had more emotional problems than some people I’ve ever seen. Granted I’m sure there will be cases of some homosexual parents being great for the kids, but for the most case I think it is harmful for the kids. They have the choice to be with whoever they want, but I think we should look at how we are starting to let things happen.

The majority of the people are still not ready for this change. We were brought up to believe that marriage was between a man and a woman not only by our parents but by the beliefs of most of our religions. The values in this country are changing rapidly, and it is only a matter of time before this changes.

I know the theme for this year has been change but most people are simply not ready for this much change. The generation of people are still that believe a "union" between two people of the same sex is completely unacceptable. It may sound strange to say, but as long as this generation of people is around, there will never be a majority of people that ok with this.
