Unschooling, a new movement where children aren't in school, they are home doing whatever they please. The parents say, when they want to learn they will find the means to do so. Also the parents are taking the children out of public schools because they do not want them to be exposed to the bullying or the competitiveness. I think that a little of these things are healthy for a child to learn. Obviously I'm not okay with excessive amounts of either, however, it teaches a child to find something that they are good at or could maybe want to pursue in the future. These children that are "unschooled" aren't being prepared for the life outside of home, they live without rules, without structure, almost without parenting. I think that these children would be upset with their parents later on in life when they realize that they aren't prepared for college or the work world.

As the American educational system grows bloated, becomes alarmingly underfunded and falls further behind the rest of the world this iteration, or lack there of rears its ugly head. A critical analysis of modern countries that the United States competes with educationally, namely China, shows that Americas once adequate educational system has fallen short, far short of what it once was. Deficiencies in math and science majors/students, the lifeblood of education and industry are reaching an all time high. The same holds true of English students and reading skills. At the forefront for Americas future, these students are simply not being as encouraged, or motivated or adequately prepared as our foreign counterparts. This lack of preparation will bring to bare America as a second tier nation of scholars and innovators; which is only further perpetuated by this misguided attempt to placate a childs whims instead of instilling a work ethic when it comes to their education. And it annoys me, and shouldn't even be entertained as a concept.

I believe it is important for children to attend some kind of schooling.Schools allow different groups of people to socialize and work together, creating unity and cooperation among different social classes. Leaving kids at home robs them of this chance to learn these socialization skills.

I agree these students whom are going through this are going to pay for it in the long run. You cant shelter someone from the world and expect to be able to co exist in it as well. This is the craziest thing I have heard.
