For better or for worse?

As if the fight for same sex marriage hasn't been hard enough, now the issue of divorce has been brought to our attention. It seems a bit contradicting that as gay marriages are slowly becoming more accepted around the nation, now divorces are being demanded. But if they are being granted the same rights as a heterosexual marriage then divorce is an option that they should have access to. I personally don't believe in divorce but if someone is trapped in a relationship that can not be reconciled then I think that couple should have the ability to make their separation legal if that is their final decision. In Dallas, Texas a gay couple is being denied the right to file for divorce, stirring up quite a controversy. The couple was married in Massachusetts because the state of Texas does not allow same-sex marriage, they now refuse to allow a divorce in the state as well. I have always been a supporter of gay rights and although this case seems to be a bit backwards, I still support the couples cause.

  1. I fully agree, with the right to marriage should come the right to divorce. And as the world slowly shifts to allowing same sex marriages in more places, there has to be a means of legally nulling the contract as well. You can't control who you fall in love with, but you should be able to choose who to marry regardless of gender but at the same time if the relationship does become as though the spouses are trapped, it only makes sense to give them a chance to legally seperate.

  3. Hear Hear, I agree that in the world we live today, gay marriage is outdated. Divorce rates are close to 50% nowadays. When it is this high, should marriage even be considered sacred anymore. Let alone be allowed to exclude same sex marriages? I think not. People in this day and age should be allowed to marry anyone they want because the marriages that are running the conventional way don't seem to be working as effectively anymore
