Gay Marriage In Iowa

In the past few days the controversial issue over gay marriage was brought to a head, when Iowa supreme court ruled gay marriage legal. The controversy continues and will continually get worse. I stand strong on my decision to agree with Iowas ruling. It is not too much to ask that a couple be given fair rights as any other couple in the United States, and times are changing and we need to keep up!Obviously the government is slowly working towards legalizing gay marriage across the line, and they might as well legalize it everywhere!

I have to agree on some levels. I don't personally agree with gay marriage and I don't think the times are changing that much. I do believe the government shouldn't have a say in what people do in their personal lives as long as they aren't hurting anybody, and I have never heard of anybody being harmed by people being gay.

I agree with Melissa gay marriage should be legalized! How can we discriminate against a certain group of people? Who are we to judge how people live? And is there really any difference, I mean they are going to live together anyways atleast give them the benefits of being married. I say again who are we to judge.

As much as i agree that times are changing, I dont think gay marriage is one of the major things, or first things that needs to be looked at or changed. Eventually i can see the world changing and adapting to gay marriage but not anytime to soon.

I agree. I can't say that a fully support gay marriage but I recognize the injustice of denying people the right to marry. We live in a nation that is all about equality and equal rights. Homosexuals are Americans, and they deserve American rights.

I foresee the nationwide legalization of gay marriage as the next great civil rights movement. I also predict that President Obama will be the one to tackle this issue during his second term. We have grown as a society and as a country to the point that we can no longer oppress other people due to their sexuality. The time has come that we all stand together and fight for our citizens’ equality.

I dont agree with the legalization of gay marriage. It is not important of necessary for the government to just go ahead and make it legal everywere because that goes againts everything our nation was built upon. "In god we trust" is what we stand upon. There is no need for the government to bend and break everytime a new fade comes.

I totally disagree with you Isaac, this nation was built upon freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom to do what ever the h*** you want, that is what makes our country so AWESOME! Ofcourse it is necessary for the government to change when something new comes along, what are we going to ignore it? Gay rights in America is very real and for people to pass judgments, discriminate, and tell people how to live their lives because of their sexual preference is ridiculous! Yes In God We Trust, but to me God and peoples personal beliefs always tend to get in the way of great things. For instance, stem-cell research. And just because God says it is wrong does not mean that it is wrong. Are the terrorist right in their way of thinking they "Trust in God" does that make them right? Look in no way am I Homosexual I just think that discrimination is wrong and goes AGAINST everything that America was built upon.

Who ever wrote at 12:32 forgot to put there name but thats ok. Its ironic that some believe that we should ignore religion and what God thinks when that is what are country was founded on. The founding fathers were very religous men. True this country was founded on many freedoms including speach and religion, but it is not true that it is founded on I can do whatever I want. Infact there are many laws and regulations that say what a person can and cannot do!Terrorist and Gay marriage are like apples and ketchup, they have nothing to do with eachother.

I definatly agree with Melissa. This country was based on one foundation, FREEDOM. People have every right to marry whoever they like...since when is "the land of the free" going to tell u NO...?This country has already dealt with racial issues and now look at us...we have finally united, i cant imagine how we would be if we would quit telling people who they can and cant marry!

This country was not founded by the grace of God. It was founded to get rid of tyrannical rule from the British and become a more secular nations. Sure you can practice it, but the minute it becomes tied into the government it becomes an issue. It is called separation of church and state. Religion should stay out of politics. Politics in reverse should stay out of religion. There is no reason that homosexuals should not be able to marry based on some outdated and frankly ignorant laws that were passed in a time of less openness and hatred.

Even though my outlook on gay marriage is wishy washy. I feel like if the government keeps letting issues like this one pass then we other issues will get passed and there will be no stopping point. We must draw the line somewhere.

To respond to Lisa, comparing gay marriage to racism is crazy. I feel that gay marriage should not be allowed in any state period. If u feel to be different then u agree to be treated different thats jus my opinion.

People should be free to do what they want. Although I dont agree with gay marriage, Its not my right/business to tell people how to live their lives. When the question of marriage comes in mind, the church should intervene, not the government. Its a sin for gay's to marry in the bible so this is an issue the church should personally deal with.

It is my personal belief, as I was raised to believe, that marriage is something that should be between a man and woman. I have no negative opinion about gay couples, but do think that marriage is a sacrament that should be left the way it was intended. It will be interesting to see though how many more states start to agree with Iowa and other states where it has been legalized.
