Health Care

I was wondering why we are having a hard time getting universal healthcare when so many other countries had already established it. I understand there are a lot of economic hurdles we have to come across but how can we make the transition as smooth as possible? I have a friend that is a post doc at UC Berkeley. He is originally from Germany and it is cheaper for him to fly home and receive health and dental care then it is for him to receive treatment in the US.

  1. Personally i think something has to be done because i dont have health care insurance because the prices are to high.I dont even want to go to the hospital when i have asthma attcks and get sick because i dont have the funds.I just want them to be a reasonable price that a college student can afford.

  2. The idea of free health care always sounds good. After all FREE makes us believe that it is just that FREE. However free only means that we do not directly pay for the health care we recieve. We would however pay with increased taxes. It really would not be that different then it is now. Hospitals do not turn people in need of health care away, in fact those without insurance usually stay longer in the hospital then those with insurance. This is because the insurance companies will only pay for a certain amount of days for a certain diagnosis. Those with out insurance are not forced to leave the hospital. The cost of the extended hospital care, you guessed it, it comes from the taxes that we all pay. So it sounds free but really not that different then it is already today.

  3. I agreee, the health care in America sucks. Canada, a nice sized country provides health care for all of their residents. Now being that America is considered a rich country, why is it so hard to provide us with the health care that we need. Where is all this money going? I think that the bonus that some of the AIG employess are getting should instead of going to their bank accounts, go towards an efficient health care program.
