In the United States, there are so many different beliefs and ideals. For the most part, people respect others views. So why is the government involved in the polygamist case out in Texas? I realize that this is a controversial issue, but honestly, I believe we do not have the right to interfere with another's beliefs and views in life. Today, Texas' Child Protective Services plan to appeal the court's ruling that the officials had no right to take the children away from their families. LINK I hope that the appeal is struck down.
We may not understand or accept the polygamy beliefs, but that is no reason to take action against these people. What have they done to hurt others?
I feel the need to clarify myself and the last two statements I made. I did not portray what I was trying to say accurately.
I definitely feel there was a necessity for Texas officials to go in and "rescue" the children that have been subjected to molestation, but I definitely feel as if the media has as always made a huge production of defaming the way those people lived. Because they go through life differently - they are ostracized.

I believe that some children should be taken away from all of that. Especially the ones who may have been molested. Yes, I do believe in respecting other's views but to a certain extent. They can follow their own views within the laws of this nation. That means no child molestation even if it is their own beliefs. Its not about them living away from civilization. "This case is about adult men commanding sex from underage children; about women knowingly condoning and allowing sexual abuse of underage children; about the need for the department to take action under difficult, time-sensitive and unprecedented circumstances to protect children on an emergency basis." The children and mothers were brainwashed into believing it was ok for their 15 year old daughter to be molested by a 60 year old man. I find that rather disgusting.

I agree with Jessica. When a child is knowingly being molested, and the parents know, they are unfit parents. Although the media probably has stretched the story out more than what it really is, these young children were being molested. I think the Texas authorities stepped in right in time, because they didn't want another Waco incident to happen. Some of these people are brainwashed and don't realize what is happening in reality.

I've been following this case since it started. There is no doubt in my mind that abuse has been taking place in this FDLS sect. I'm all for respecting people's right to be in a polygamist relationship, but when brainwashing and sexual molestation occurs it's no longer a right. It is criminal behavior, plain and simple. It's not a healthy place for anyone to be raised, especially girls, so I'm all in favor for the children to be taken away. I know it's sad to think about children being taken away from their parents, but would you rather this vicious cycle of brainwashing and molestation to continue?

In my opinion I believe the children should be taken away. The molestation of the children at the polygamist ranch was not right.I'm glad authorities stepped in when they did.

People have the right to believe whatever they want in America. But do they have the right to subject innocent children to those beliefs? Not if those beliefs constitute child abuse or child molestation.
