Recently, the former head of our local county road department was indicted for grand theft for allegedly directing shipment of asphalt milling to a county commissioners home for his personal use without payment. The case went to trial and it ended with a hung jury resulting in a mistrial. A few days later, the judge dismissed the case based on the lack of evidence. The defense attorneys had asked him to do this at the close of the state's case and again at the end of the trial, but he did not. However, a few days later, he entered a dismissal. The State Attorney, according to our local paper, has sent a letter requesting a withdrawal of the dismissal and has expressed outrage at the judge's actions.
This is small town politics at its best. This is the kind of stuff you could write books about. It really pays to read the news and keep up with current affairs at the local, state, and national levels. Our votes are what put elected officials in their places. We need to know who we are putting where.
I have to laugh at your post. Your right, we put some of the dumbest politicians in office because we like their name or face. I wish more people would research politicians before we put them in office.
