State Budget Crisis

The Florida Legislature is dealing with a budget crisis that is hitting state agencies hard. My husband works in a state agency for a very conservative elected official. His boss has been very conservative through the years, but it seems now that the surplus he has had over the years doesn't inure to his benefit. It has to be utilized to help those that have spent at will both recklessly and without regard for the future. He seems to indicate that much of the legislative business is done by the staffers that stay in certain positions on committees and that handle the functioning aspects of the legislature, doing things many times that the legislators themselves may not actually know.

I'm not really sure what has caused this shortfall, but it seems to me that there should be people in our government who are smart enough to be top-shelf financial managers. This harm to the state agencies filters down to everyone ultimately and a closer look should be had at just who is running things in Tallahassee.

  1. I used to teach at CFCC and the last year I was there, this book was required reading for all students. It was one of the better books I've ever read, so I completely agree with Rynn's recommendation.

Read it and you'll both be entertained and learn at the same time. I haven't seen the movie yet, but the word I hear is that it's pretty good as well.

  3. I totally agree with your post. A lot of finacing for our state is being handled by the wrong people. Too much money is being put in the wrong areas, and not enough money in the areas that need it.
