Making The Rounds

Senator McCain is making the usual political publicity rounds. The media has even coined him as the new face of "Republican America", despite the fact that President Bush is still firmly in office. The sixty something hit Iraq, Israel, Jordan, London, and a few other places on his publicity tour. He even did some smooching with England's prime minister, Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street McCain is eager to make friends in high places all over the world, so he refrained from mentioning his earlier comments of criticism about British pullout in the Iraqi city of Basra. Brown and McCain mainly talked about Brown's efforts as an environmentalist while McCain subtly pushed for British forces to remain in Iraq so America's "surge" effort in the country could continue on. So what does all this traveling mean? It means that the Republican party has a candidate that's coming across as an internationalist and statesmen concerned about the world's environment while us democrats are still duking it out for the nomination and wasting valueable time that could be used to gather internation support and influence.

  2. I believe in what you're saying. That he is definitely gaining a good reputation with others across the seas but once the democrats are able to finally pick a candidate (obama) they will win.

  3. In order to win, republicans definitely need a new face, which might not be John McCain, but I think people are starting to realize that George W. Bush is just one unusually bad president, and he doesn't represent all the republican candidates to come. Whether or not a democrat wins, or a republican, as long as it's not W. I'll be happy.

Seth, that seems like a risky thing to say ("as long as it's not W"). I think McCain might be worse than Bush once he takes office. He only focuses on the military side of being president (Commander-in-chief), while America is facing many other serious issues that cannot wait to be addressed, like social security, the economy, education, etc. Some of the statements McCain has made are pretty scary...not the type of guy I would want as president! Hopefully we won't have to worry about him if a Democrat ends up winning in November.
