What happened to the experience argument?

Since the presidential race began, McCain has argued that Obama does not have enough experience for the job. So then he goes out and picks Palin as a running mate. She is on the record for saying that she needs to research what the role of vice president encompasses. If I am running a hedge fund and want to take on a general partner, I am not going to hire someone that tells me that she or he needs to look up the difference between a stock and a bond! It is sad when a Republican pigeon-holes himself. This relates to the class because we are discussing candidate comparison.

I agree with you that Palin may not be very experienced but I feel that it is more important to elect a President with experience rather than a vice president with experience. My personal opinion is anyone who votes for Barack Obama is taking a gamble given that he has little political experience and now is not the time to gamble when picking who is going to lead America. If experience is what you are looking for in a candidate this election then vote for McCain.

I would have to agree. McCain should have hired someone that has more political experience than Palin. In my opinion this shows that he does not always make wise choices. As for Obama, he may not have as much experience but their is still plenty of time for growth for him with the elecion. We need a president that has experience now. Times are only getting harder and we need changes now.

We should not confuse experience with long-term incompetence. McCain has voted with Bush 90% of the time. If a kid throws a baseball and then a brick at a window, and the baseball breaks the window, there is a good chance that the brick will also break the window. I rather work on buying a new pane than destoying the "house" that is America even further.

Rather than looking at Obama’s inexperience shouldn’t we applaud the man for getting to the position where he is in such a rapid amount of time. As Americans we live a competitive life and always try to “be the first” and that is exactly what Obama is doing. His education and brightness cannot be argued. I believe Palin was brilliant choice for McCain’s Vice President, because even though she as well does not have a lot of experience she is a bright, and appeals to women for one, and most of all relates to the everyday American more than the other candidates.

Let's look at it from this point of view: neither one of the candidates have the experience to be a President or V.P. The responsibilities for these positions are much greater than what either of the candidates actual have the experience for. It takes time to fully understand what it takes to be a leader. I don't think there was anything wrong with Palin researching the background of a vice president. I just don't think she should have said it out loud!

As governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has more executive experience than Obama or Biden. Everyone is concerned about her experience for a Vice President pick, but not many are concerned about Obama's experience running for President. It is pretty sad that both candidates are the best that both parties can offer us.

I agree that Sarah Palin might not have the same experience that Obama or Mcain has, but she is the governor of Alaska. Mcain said that he questions Obama's experience, which is true. It is more important for the presidential canidate to have more experiece than the vice presidential position. I support what was said by Mcain and also agree that Palin's knowledge of the position need to be improved upon.

I was so happy that McCain chose Sarah Palin as a running mate. Not only does his argument of experience fly out the window but he just gave Senator Obama the election on a pedestal. From this viewers observation he doesn't have the experience necessary to make rational decisions.
