I am not sure if the United States is really capable of handling a black commander in chief. I agree wholeheartedly with Obama's policies and his desire for a change and I in no way agree with John McCain or his policies. However, it seems as if our society is not ready for this yet. There is still a large number of racist people in our nation today such as the people that created this picture. The picture was sent around the world by an unknown individual in an email stating, "Guess What? Look who's coming to visit! FAMILY MEMBERS ARE ALREADY HEADED TO THE WHITE HOUSE FOR A VISIT." This despicable picture represents Africans traveling to the white house. There are numerous examples of these racial slurs throughout the internet. This undeniable observation warrants an idea that if elected Obama will create a social turmoil unheard of since the days of segregation and the late Martin Luther King. Whether the possible disturbances will stay on a verbal platform or will reach the heights of lethal action will remain to be seen. I believe that Obama will do a tremendous job in office even with the horrors of the little Bush administration lingering behind. Unfortunately he cannot run a country from six feet under. I pray that Obama wins for the good of the country, but I do fear for his life and the potential grief that his family could suffer. My last concern is what condition the nation will be in if this happens. Will there be riots? Race wars? A nation torn apart? Who knows what can happen and there can be no foreseeing the situation. The only thing that I am sure about is that I truly admire Obama for his courage in facing the unexpected and hope beyond hope that my fears are never realized. However, I cannot stop myself from being more concerned with Vice President hopeful Biden and the policies and views that he represents.

I believe this country is ready for any candidate may he or she be black or white. my concern is, why this country leans more towards a more popular candidate rather than more experienced or qualified? That is what scares me.

I agree with you. I think that the reason why is that most people are either uneducated or do not care enough to do the actual research that is required to truly understand the candidates. Some people will always be this way and it probably will not change.

I would have to agree with you as well. I have never been interested in politics until recently. I would have to say the fact that we have a white vs. black race is what got me more involved. I believe that you should choose a side based on their beliefs and what they will do for our country and not the color of their skin. You can not change how some people view things, all you can do is make you choice for the right reasons and vote for the best candidate.

I agree with this article,i feel that america is not ready for a black president.I think both sides will be racist about the choice. This picture really disturbs me ,becuase who would think just because hes getting elected that his family has to come and visit.I hope he wins and dosen't get assinated because many will hope and try.I feel that he would have a major effect on everyone in america in a positve and negative way ,i think everyone will be more racist than they all ready are and if hes killed that will start an big outrageous fight with everyday people.

I totally agree, with the condition our country will be left in after the bush administration is over with, we need a strong president like Obama that will not only bring our country out of this whole we have dug ourselves in, but stand for more. With so many radical organizations still out there, if elected I believe Obama should be fearful for his life, and I think he knows what he is getting himself in to. On the positive side if he is elected look at it as a way where our nation is putting things in the past and a sort of symbol that can unify our country.

I guess the country is ready for a black president since he was voted in. Let's not forget, he is also half white. Hopefully, by Obama being voted in, this will help racism on both sides.

This is a pivotal moment in american history that our democratic candidate is a black man. However, this shouldn't be the deciding factor of whether or not he is chosen as president. It doesn't matter if he's half black or half white. Just as long as when he's elected as president he stands for the change the american people need. Why would his skin color matter anyway? This is a stereotype on anyone who believes that this is a problem/issue. There are some things we have to keep in mind when Obama is elected into office. Number 1 issue is this whole race thing. Hopefully this will not be an issue in November or after the election.
